Student Activities
November 2022 – January 2023: 𝗣𝗦𝗨 𝗣𝗵𝘂𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲” (𝙋𝙎𝙐 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙂𝘼𝘾𝘾) – 𝗣𝗦𝗨 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮 (𝙍𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 – 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮)
From November 2022 – January 2023, PSU Phuket organized various activities for 16 Thai PSU Young GACC student ambassadors led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Pensiri Akkajit, head of project, and IAC staff. This year’s project theme is “𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝟭𝟰: 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿.” The acvitivies include:
1. On November 23rd, 2022, the students attended a special lecture on “Endangered Marine Species” given by Mr. Hirun Kanghae, Fisheries Expert from the Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC).
2. On December 9th, 2022, the students and their international buddies did a beach clean-up to collect plastics and other rubbish along Nai Yang Beach. This activity aims to raise public awareness on the amount of waste that ends up in the ocean and to engage the youths to create sustainable solutions to environmental problems.
3. On November – December 2022, the students participated in a six-hour English for Effective Presentation Skills workshop taught by Aj. Milla Budiarto. The students learned about the four stages of an effective presentation, including the structure, content, delivery, and elements of presentation design. Each student gave a presentation on one of the ten targets of SDG 14 (Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water) utilizing the four stages of effective presentation from the previous lesson. The lesson concluded with 6 group presentations with the topic: “Conservation and Utilization of Marine Resources for Sustainable Development in Phuket.” Throughout the class, the students continually improved their confidence in presenting using English as the medium of communication.
4. On January 13th-15th, 2023, the students took part in an educational trip to Singapore to visit St. John’s Island National Marine Laboratory (SJINML) within the Tropical Marine Science Institute of National University of Singapore (NUS). During the three-day visit, the students had the opportunity to learn more about SJINML and what they do, attend a special talk by an Acoustic Research Laboratory Scientist, and tour the facilities in SJINML. From this trip, the students gained valuable knowledge of the latest research in marine science and also got to experience traveling abroad.
