Website: http://www.fht.psu.ac.th/

The Faculty of Hotel and Tourism/FHT began enrolling students in 1994 in order to serve the rapidly developing needs of the tourism industry in Thailand, especially along the Andaman Sea coast. From its inception, FHT was highly successful in supporting the tourism industry in Phuket and other Thai tourist locations. The program soon developed a special facility with teaching languages based on the work of the Institute of Languages. Asian languages offered included Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai.  European languages included French, German and Spanish. While the ability to speak English was a prerequisite for admission into FHT, all students also studied English intensively to further their skills.

Extending Educational Boundaries

In 2003, FHT introduced the Masters of Business Administration in the Hospitality and Tourism degree program.  The M.B.A. program attracts students from within Thailand and countries as far away as Ecuador.  The philosophy of the program is to prepare students for leadership positions in the hospitality and tourism industry in both Thailand and the broader global marketplace.

Promoting International Cooperation

The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism also developed international links with several countries.  Students from Austria Vienna School of Economics and Business Administration have been taking a summer session each year, groups of students from Finland come twice a year for short courses, and students from GuangXi and JiangXi Universities come each year for short courses.  Increasing numbers of students from China and western countries are also entering the program as full-time students each year.  Lastly, James Cook University in Queensland, Australia and PSU established an on going exchange program beginning in March 2009.

Since its formation, several tourism and business conferences have been co-sponsored by PSU with tourism agencies such as the Tourism Authority of Thailand and TICA, the Phuket Government Administration, neighboring countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia, European and American universities, and collaborations between the Tourism Authority of Thailand/TAT, and the French Tourism Ministry.
