PSU Phuket Campus, NIDA, and PMUC received GBAC STAR award, the global health standard certification




On January 26, 2024, PSU Phuket Campus, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prathana Kannaovakun, Dean of the Faculty of International Studies, took part in the certification ceremony for GBAC STAR (Global Biorisk Advisory Council STAR) at the Bangsaen Heritage Hotel in Chonburi Province. This ceremony occurred under the research and development project to elevating international health standards. Mr. Weerasak Kowsurat, a distinguished senator and former Minister of Tourism and Sports, delivered a speech emphasizing the invaluable benefits and profound significance of the GBAC STAR standard. This standard contributes significantly to advancing the SHA and SHA Plus standards.




The Thai prototype organizations that have participated in the GBAC STAR certification program were Phuket International Airport, Suuko Wellness & Spa Resort, Phuket, Nikorn Marine Tour Phuket, Bang Saen Heritage Convention Center in Chonburi, Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld in Bangkok and Nai Lert Park Heritage Home in Bangkok. 




This collaborative effort signifies a dedicated commitment to international health standards, reinforcing PSU Phuket Campus's role in cultivating a safer and more secure global landscape.
The project is under the leadership of Ms. Nuansamorn Ounhaprateep and her dedicated team, the project conducted in collaboration with PSU Phuket Campus, the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) and the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMUC). The project aims to enhances Phuket's standards and safety in its tourist destinations which prioritizes international health standards and meets the needs and safety expectations of tourists with the evolving lifestyle of the ‘Next Normal’. The participating exemplary businesses certified with the GBAC STAR standard include Patong Bay Hill Resort, Tiger Muay Thai, and Koh Yao Yai. 



However, GBAC STAR stands as an internationally acclaimed health and hygiene standard. This standard is certified by the International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) in the United States, founded in the year 1923. GBAC STAR is widely recognized as the gold standard for cleaning and disinfection practices to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, including COVID-19. This standard ensures that facilities are safe and healthy for occupants by establishing and maintaining a comprehensive cleaning and disinfection plan, providing training for staff on proper cleaning and disinfection procedures, using EPA-registered cleaning and disinfection products, regularly monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the cleaning and disinfection program.
