PSU, EGAT, Thai Charter, and university network jointly develop Wellness Business to raise economy and competitiveness of the country
PSU, represented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Jumphon Chuenjitsiri, Vice President for Legal and Academic Services, signed an MoU for the development of the medical economy, health promotion, clean energy, and promoting investment in EGAT's innovation zones and areas to develop and upgrade the economy. The agreement, also expected to enhance the competitiveness of the country, was also signed by Thai Charter and a network of ten universities at the Auditorium, EGAT's 50th Anniversary Building, Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi, on 2 June 2023.
The cooperation between the Thai Charter Network and EGAT is expected to transform EGAT's dams and potential surrounding communities into a comprehensive wellness business: a medical innovation and health promotion zone, a high-value tourism innovation zone, and high-value industrial economic zones. The transformation will happen through business models, innovation and technology development, marketing network development, employment promotion, and community economy development. In addition, university network coordination will provide support through academic information. Within a five-year framework, the measures are expected to raise the level of the economy in response to the national strategic goal of turning Thailand into a high-income country by 2037.
EGAT will develop a master plan integrated with Thai Charter and the university network in each region of the country to formulate a regional strategic plan for community development in each province with EGAT's dams as the center of operations and connecting to communities. The plan will be piloted in nine target areas across the country as follows:
- two locations in the north: Sirikit Dam in Uttaradit and Bhumibol Dam in Tak
- two locations in the south: Krabi Power Plant in Krabi and Rajjaprabha Dam in Surat Thani
- three locations in the northeastern region: Ubol Ratana Dam in Khon Kaen, Lamtakong Jolabha Vadhana Power Plant in Nakhon Ratchasima, and Chulabhorn Dam in Chaiyaphum.
- two locations in the west: Vajiralongkorn Dam and Srinakarin Dam in Kanchanaburi.
