PSU Opens the 2026 Freshmen Games, Providing a Platform for Students to Showcase Their Talents
The Administrative Organization of the Student Union, Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Hat Yai Campus, held the opening ceremony of the PSU Freshmen Games 2026, an annual sports tradition for first-year students. The event provides opportunities for new students to showcase their abilities, build friendships with peers from different faculties, and develop skills that contribute to becoming responsible global citizens and living together constructively in a diverse community. The opening ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wirote Youravong, Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations, and attended by University executives, staff, students, and members of the PSU community. The ceremony took place at the PSU Main Stadium, Hat Yai Campus, on August 30, 2026.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wirote Youravong said that the Freshmen Games provide an important opportunity for first-year students to develop their sporting abilities and demonstrate their creativity and teamwork through cheering activities. Beyond competition, the event also serves as a learning space where new students can adjust to university life, develop meaningful friendships, and strengthen connections across faculties. He expressed his hope that participating students would become more interested in sports, continue developing their athletic skills, and build on their experiences in the future. He also emphasized that friendship among students from different faculties, respect for both victory and defeat, forgiveness, and good sportsmanship are equally important values of the Games. PSU Freshmen Games 2026 are being held from August 29 to September 5, 2026, at various sporting venues across Prince of Songkla University. The opening ceremony featured a range of activities, beginning with students gathering for a parade at the area in front of the University flagpole before proceeding to the Main Stadium. Flag bearers representing each faculty took part in the flag ceremony, followed by the athletes’ oath led by a senior athlete. The program also included performances by the University marching band, a baton performance representing Prince of Songkla University, and a Spirit Cheer Competition. Through sports, teamwork, and shared experiences, the PSU Freshmen Games provide new students with an opportunity to form friendships, discover their potential, and begin their university journey with a strong sense of community and sportsmanship.
