PSU Partners with Ministry of Education and SEAMEO SEPS to Host International Seminar Strengthening Educational Networks for Food Security
Prince of Songkla University (PSU) co-hosted the International Academic Seminar on Strengthening International Educational Cooperation for Food Security: IAS 2026, in collaboration with the Bureau of International Cooperation, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, and the SEAMEO Regional Centre for Sufficiency Economy Philosophy for Sustainability (SEAMEO SEPS).
Held from 25–28 August 2026 in Songkhla, the seminar provided an international platform for exchanging policies, knowledge, and best practices related to food management, food security, and sustainable development.
The seminar brought together representatives in education and cultural affairs from embassies and consulates of seven countries: Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, and the People’s Republic of China.
The program connected the concepts of Food Security, Sustainable Consumption, and the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through policy dialogues, study visits, workshops, and place-based learning activities.
On 26 August 2026, Assistant Professor Dr. Supatra Davison, Assistant President for ASEAN Affairs and the Creative Economy at PSU, welcomed participants before joining discussions on education policy and the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, as well as study visits focusing on food sustainability.
On 27 August 2026, delegates visited PSU Hat Yai Campus, where they were welcomed by Assistant Professor Dr. Niwat Keawpradub, President of Prince of Songkla University, who also presented PSU’s expertise and initiatives in food security and sustainable development.
During the program, PSU shared knowledge and best practices across a range of areas, including Food Security and Sustainability, the PSU Green Library, Songkhla UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, the development of ready-to-eat food for disaster situations, and the production of bio-fermented liquid from waste generated by sea bass farming in Songkhla Lake.
IAS 2026 highlights PSU’s role in connecting expertise in education, food, and sustainability with international networks. The seminar also provides an important platform for exchanging experiences, strengthening partnerships, and developing future international cooperation to advance food security and sustainable development across the region.
