PSU Hat Yai Campus strengthens proactive safety measures, partners with local security agencies to enhance emergency preparedness
Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Hat Yai Campus, convened a special meeting of the Hat Yai Campus Committee, Meeting No. 21 (4/2026), on 13 August 2026 at Meeting Room 210, Office of the President, PSU Hat Yai Campus, with online participation also available. The meeting focused on developing proactive measures for prevention, surveillance, and emergency response to safeguard students, staff, and the wider university community.
The meeting was held in response to growing awareness of current safety concerns, including incidents involving armed violence in educational institutions and other security threats affecting schools in the Hat Yai area. These developments highlight the need for the University to review and strengthen its security measures to ensure systematic, timely, and effective responses to potential emergencies.
Associate Professor Dr. Wasin Suwannarat, Vice President for Hat Yai Campus, in his capacity as Chair of the Hat Yai Campus Committee, led the meeting together with committee members, university executives, and personnel responsible for security and emergency management across faculties and administrative units.
Participants exchanged views on preventive and surveillance measures, emergency preparedness, and response drills. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring that personnel clearly understand emergency procedures and are prepared to respond appropriately, with the aim of minimizing potential harm and loss should an emergency occur.
The University also invited representatives from local law enforcement and security agencies to provide professional perspectives and recommendations. Participants included Police Colonel Phakin Na Ranong, Deputy Commander of Songkhla Provincial Police; Police Colonel Apichat Wannako, Superintendent of Kho Hong Police Station; and Police Lieutenant Colonel Suwat Chaisuk, Inspector of the Special Operations Sub-Division, Songkhla Provincial Police.
The representatives shared information and recommendations to support the University in developing measures for prevention, surveillance, emergency response, and the management of potential violent incidents on campus.
The meeting forms part of PSU Hat Yai Campus’s efforts to strengthen its proactive security and emergency management system, with emphasis on prevention, risk monitoring, personnel preparedness, emergency response drills, and close coordination with local security agencies to ensure an effective and timely response when needed.
Prince of Songkla University places the safety and well-being of its students, staff, and visitors among its key priorities. The University will continue to strengthen its emergency preparedness measures and response mechanisms to maintain a safe campus environment and enhance its readiness for emerging risks and future emergencies.
As a next step, PSU Hat Yai Campus will work closely with Kho Hong Police Station to develop a coordinated action plan and establish further preventive and response measures.
