PSU joins Thai University Presidential Forum 2026, strengthening Thai higher education through AI toward the “New Growth University”
Prince of Songkla University (PSU), led by Assistant Professor Dr. Niwat Keawpradub, President of PSU, together with Associate Professor Dr. Tanit Chalermyanont, Vice President for Planning and Finance, and Associate Professor Dr. Thakerng Wongsirichot, Vice President for Academic and International Affairs, participated in the Thai University Presidential Forum 2026, a strategic platform bringing together leaders of higher education institutions nationwide to help shape the future direction of Thai higher education.
The forum was held from 6–7 August 2026 at the Vibhavadee Ballroom AB, Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI).
The Thai University Presidential Forum 2026 provided a platform for university leaders to exchange perspectives, experiences, and strategic ideas, while identifying key priorities and translating national higher education policies into university-level action.
A major focus of the forum was the strategic use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance Thailand’s higher education system. Discussions covered the development of future-oriented curricula and human capital, the use of AI and data analytics to support institutional management and decision-making, and approaches to strengthening universities’ overall AI readiness.
The forum also sought to strengthen collaboration among higher education institutions, the private sector, and policy agencies in advancing Thai universities toward the concept of a “New Growth University”—universities capable of responding effectively to economic, social, and technological changes while playing a greater role in developing future-ready talent and supporting the country’s long-term growth.
As part of the forum, Associate Professor Dr. Thakerng Wongsirichot, PSU Vice President for Academic and International Affairs, joined a panel discussion on “Model Case Study: AI-Driven Curriculum and Administrative Data Analytics” on 6 August 2026. He shared PSU’s knowledge and experience in applying AI to support academic administration, while exchanging perspectives and recommendations with higher education leaders on future approaches to advancing Thailand’s university system.
The Thai University Presidential Forum 2026 served as an important platform connecting MHESI and university leaders across the country, helping establish a shared understanding of the future direction of Thai higher education.
The forum ultimately aims to enhance the quality of education and develop a workforce equipped with competencies that meet the country’s evolving needs. It also encourages universities to establish clear strategies for adopting technology and innovation to drive meaningful transformation, strengthening the capacity and sustainability of Thailand’s higher education system.
