1st Mobile Meeting of the Sustainable University Network of Thailand: 43 HEIs met at Pattani Campus
PSU hosted the 1st Annual Meeting of the Sustainable University Network of Thailand (SUN Thailand) between 20-21 April 2023 at PSU’s Pattani Campus. Participants exchanged knowledge on the operation of the university towards sustainability in terms of both maintaining an environmentally-friendly management and creating sustainable development in various dimensions. A total of 43 higher education institutions under SUN Thailand Network participated in this event on-site and online.



The opening ceremony on 21 April 2023 was presided online by Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradub, President of Prince of Songkla University, while Mrs. Patimoh Sadiyamu, Governor of Pattani province, gave a welcome speech, and Asst. Dr. Bordin Waelateh, Acting Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Affairs, PSU Pattani Campus, gave a reporting speech. Asst. Prof. Acting 2nd Lt. Dr. Kittikoon Rungruang, Vice President for Ongkharak Campus and Physical Development, Srinakharinwirot University, the president of SUN Thailand, conveyed his appreciation.






Asst. Prof. Dr. Attachai Ueranantasun, Acting Vice President for Pattani Campus, explained that the establishment SUN Thailand arose from the concept of sustainable development needs of various organizations. The world is aware of the environmental crisis caused by economic development that led to excessive use of resources. The sustainable development approach fostered by the network focuses on the integration of economic, social, and environmental dimensions. Dr. Attachai also pointed out that every country could use this example as a framework or direction of national development, while academic institutions play an important role in the transfer of knowledge through education and research to produce quality graduates for society.






The event featured the special lecture “Green Parcels: University Actions towards Zero Emission” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Janya Chanchaichujit, Assistant President for Promotion of Foreign Affairs. Creative Economy case studies were also highlighted, including the Pattani Creative Economy City Project, Pattani Heritage City, and the Local Food Product Enterprise Development Project from Identity Agricultural Products.
Event participants were also given the opportunity to join study visits to multicultural places in Pattani, such as the old town of A-Rom-Dee, the Lim Ko Niao Shrine, the Pattani Central Mosque, and other cultural and natural landmarks of the province.
