The distinguished professors had the opportunity to explore the historical and cultural landmarks of Chinatown (Kedai Cina) in Pattani, a vibrant part of the province’s creative economy. Their tour included visits to the Kedai Cina Heritage House (PSU community engagement Project) and the Baan Khun Phithak Raya House, recipient of the 2021 UNESCO Award of Merit for Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Conservation. These iconic buildings, located in the Hua Talat community near the Pattani River, have played a pivotal role in the region''s history and economic development. Originally serving as both business premises and residences for Chinese settlers, these two-story shophouses are integral to Pattani’s rich cultural heritage. Notably, Baan Khun Phithak Raya is mentioned in records of King Rama V’s visit to Pattani and prominently featured in photographs from the Japanese invasion of Thailand in 1941.
