PSU Pattani Strengthens Ties with OIC Diplomatic Missions to Boost Economic and Educational Development in Southern Border Provinces







     

    On June 12, 2024, Prince of Songkla University (PSU) Pattani, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC), hosted a significant event at Yala TK Park to enhance relationships with the diplomatic missions of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This initiative aims to foster cooperation in advancing the economic and educational potential of the southern border provinces.

    The event commenced at 10:00 AM and featured key representatives from PSU Pattani, including Asst. Prof. Dr. Bordin Waelateh, Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations, Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammadroflee Waehama, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, and Miss Nanthida Kulkuea, from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

    The primary objectives of the event were to provide accurate information regarding the current situation in the region, elucidate government policies, and highlight the efforts undertaken by various central and local agencies to address challenges and promote development in the southern border provinces. Additionally, the event aimed to strengthen international relations and foster cooperation in economic, social, and educational development.

    The OIC diplomatic representatives attending the event included ambassadors and foreign representatives from eight countries: Brunei, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Maldives, Nigeria, Indonesia, and Uzbekistan.

    The program featured comprehensive briefings on policy overviews and agency operations, encompassing both security and development aspects. Discussions were also held between the OIC diplomatic corps and educational institutions from the three southern border provinces, which include Prince of Songkla University, Yala Rajabhat University, Fatoni University, and Princess of Naradhiwas University.

    During the event, PSU Pattani showcased its curriculum and joint initiatives with OIC countries, presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Bordin Waelateh and Miss Nanthida Kulkuea. PSU Pattani is committed to leading initiatives that develop language skills and economic potential, with a focus on promoting halal products. The university''s Language Center, the Bachelor of Arts in English program, and various other language courses support these goals. Additionally, the Halal Institute at PSU Pattani plays a pivotal role in promoting halal products to Muslim markets within the OIC. Following the discussions, the diplomatic corps and attendees visited an exhibition featuring over 27 booths showcasing halal products from the three southern border provinces, highlighting the region''s potential and commitment to economic development.
