Prince of Songkla University Pattani Campus held its annual Teachers’ Day ceremony on July 3, 2025, with over 275 students and faculty joining together to celebrate the invaluable role of teachers through a blend of Thai tradition, creative expression, and heartfelt gratitude.
On the warm afternoon of July 3, 2025, the PSU Pattani Auditorium was filled with the gentle rustle of uniforms, the scent of fresh flower garlands, and the quiet reverence of students gathered to pay tribute to their teachers. As an international student witnessing this deeply moving tradition for the first time, it was more than just a ceremony; it was a heartfelt expression of respect and a beautiful insight into Thai culture.
The annual Teachers’ Day ceremony, hosted by the Student Potential Development Division of the Student Development and Alumni Relations Division, was themed “The Value of Teachers, a Valuable Legacy of Education.” Assisting to graced the event, Asst.Prof.Dr. Warapark Maitreephun, Assistant President for Research and Social Mission, Pattani Campus, presided as the guest of honor. Joined by university executives, lecturers, and more than 275 students, the ceremony highlighted the enduring importance of honoring those who shape young minds and nurture society’s future.
In his keynote speech, Dr. Warapark emphasized the moral and academic influence teachers have on students'' lives. He reminded students to hold on to gratitude, to commit to lifelong learning, and to develop themselves not only as skilled professionals but also as moral citizens. His words resonated throughout the auditorium, striking a chord with students of all backgrounds.
The event unfolded with a blend of solemnity and celebration. A traditional blessing dance set the tone for the proceedings, followed by a collective vow and the presentation of elaborately decorated flower trays to the teachers. This was more than a symbolic gesture, it was a deeply rooted tradition known as “Wai Kru”, a Thai ritual that allows students to show gratitude and formally become disciples of their teachers. The anointing of students'' foreheads, a gesture symbolizing blessings and good fortune, brought a spiritual warmth to the event.
One of the most captivating aspects of the day was the series of creative competitions designed to reflect the theme of teacher appreciation. The competitions included a polite poetry contest, where students composed and recited respectful verses to honor their mentors, and a speech competition held in four languages Thai, Southern Thai, English, and Malay, highlighting the university’s commitment to multiculturalism and inclusivity.
The tray arrangement competition turned tradition into art, as students showcased their creativity by designing symbolic offerings with intricate details that represented knowledge, respect, and admiration. Equally impressive was the Phan flower tray competition, where students interpreted the theme “The Value of Teachers, the Valuable Heritage of Education” through vivid imagery and artistic storytelling. Awards were presented to winners in each category, acknowledging both talent and understanding of the event''s deeper meaning.
For many students, especially international ones like myself, this was more than just an academic ceremony. It was an opportunity to witness the harmony between tradition and education, and to understand the emotional bond between teachers and students in Thai culture. The ceremony was not just about rituals, but about values, respect, humility, gratitude, and the pursuit of wisdom.
The Prince of Songkla University, through this event, reinforced its role not only as a center of learning but as a guardian of cultural values. The Teachers’ Day celebration stood as a reminder that education is not just about books and exams, but about shaping hearts, minds, and future citizens who remember and honor those who guide them.
As the auditorium slowly emptied and students carried their memories and blessings home, one thing was certain: the legacy of teachers lives on in the gratitude of their students, and at PSU Pattani, that legacy is celebrated with honor, creativity, and deep cultural pride.
