CIVIC WOMEN and PSU Pattani Launch WE Center, WPS Network to Advance Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces
On February 14th2025, CIVIC WOMEN Launched WE Center, WPS Network to Promote Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, at the Natural History Museum, Faculty of Science and Technology, the Civil Society Women’s Network for Peace in the Southern Border Provinces held an official opening ceremony for the WE Center, WPS Network. This center aims to serve as a hub for promoting gender equality and empowering women in academia, science, and technology.
The event was honored by Ms. Christine Arab, Regional Director of UN Women Asia and the Pacific and UN Women Representative to the Kingdom of Thailand, who delivered the opening speech, and Ms. Suda Sulong, Deputy Director of the Department of Women''s Affairs and Family Development, who extended her congratulations on the establishment of the WE Center. The ceremony was attended by faculty members, students, and distinguished guests from various sectors.
On this occasion, Asst. Prof. Dr. Warapark Maitreephun, Assistant President for Research and Social Mission of Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of empowering women, particularly within the context of Thailand’s southern border provinces. He highlighted the significance of the WE Center, WPS Network as a platform for fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders and driving collective efforts toward gender equality. Furthermore, he said that the establishment of the WE Center, WPS Network at the Faculty of Science and Technology, marks a significant step forward in advancing gender equality within higher education and Thai society. The center is expected to serve as a key platform for knowledge exchange, research, and opportunities for women at all levels.
