The visit aimed to provide the delegation an opportunity to learn about the university’s role, particularly the Southern Natural Disaster Research Center, in integrating knowledge, research, technology, and innovation to strengthen flood preparedness and response in Hat Yai District. The visit focused on lessons learned and case studies from previous severe flooding in Hat Yai, as well as the university’s role as a shelter and safe haven for affected communities. The university has played an important role in providing assistance and relief to residents of Hat Yai District and surrounding areas affected by natural disasters and flooding.

Maguindanao del Sur is located on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines, and is frequently affected by flooding due to its low-lying terrain. The visit by Mr. Esmael Gaguil Mangudadatu and the delegation provided an opportunity for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices in flood preparedness and response. It also served to strengthen mutual learning and foster cooperation between Thailand and the Philippines in the field of disaster risk management.
