PSU equips students with global competencies through “Global Ready” workshop
On 18 July 2026, the Global Affairs Office (GAO), Prince of Songkla University (PSU), organized the "Global Competency Development for Global Citizenship" workshop to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected and multicultural world. The initiative also supports the University's ongoing commitment to internationalization by preparing students to become effective global citizens and capable ambassadors of PSU.
The workshop brought together PSU students for a full day of interactive learning, beginning with ice-breaking activities, and an introduction to the University's international affairs initiatives. Participants also learned essential knowledge and practical skills for welcoming international visitors, introducing Prince of Songkla University and Thailand, and communicating effectively across cultures.
The highlight of the afternoon session was a three-hour interactive workshop entitled "Global Citizens of Tomorrow: Building Global Competencies for Living in a Multicultural World," facilitated by Dr. Suphitcha Ek-uru, former Assistant President for International Affairs. Rather than relying solely on lectures, the session engaged students through collaborative activities, discussions, and real-world simulations designed to strengthen their global readiness.
The workshop encouraged students to envision their future as global professionals before exploring the concept of Global Competence through the OECD framework. Participants reflected on the importance of intercultural communication, adaptability, empathy, and global awareness – essential competencies for studying, working, and living in diverse international environments.
Another key topic focused on the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the future of global work. Students examined how AI is transforming international collaboration while recognizing that uniquely human abilities – such as building trust, exercising ethical judgment, communicating across cultures, and fostering meaningful relationships – remain indispensable in an AI-driven world.
Through the Culture Bridge Challenge, participants worked in teams to design a welcoming experience for international exchange students, identify potential cultural misunderstandings, and develop practical guidelines for creating an inclusive campus environment. The Study Trip Simulation further challenged students to prepare for overseas academic mobility by addressing real-life issues such as cultural norms, communication styles, safety, and adaptation in unfamiliar settings.
The workshop concluded with a Gallery Walk, where participants exchanged ideas and provided peer feedback, followed by a personal commitment activity that encouraged each student to identify one global-readiness skill they would continue to develop beyond the workshop.
This initiative reflects Prince of Songkla University's dedication to developing graduates who possess not only academic excellence but also the global competencies required to engage confidently with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. By fostering intercultural understanding, global citizenship, and international engagement, PSU continues to prepare its students to contribute meaningfully to an increasingly interconnected world.
