Training Workshop on Carbon Neutrality and Clean Energy Initiatives

On July 17, 2024, at Dong Yang 1 Room, Faculty of Engineering, Prince of Songkla University (PSU), the Office of the Royal Initiative Coordination Projects, under the Research and Development Office of PSU, organized a training workshop to provide knowledge to educational institutions within the C–OPS Network (Southern Region).
The network serves as an academic collaboration platform under the Plant Genetic Conservation Project under the Royal Initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, aiming to promote sustainable higher education development.

The workshop was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Sanchai Klinpikul, Chair of the Working Committee, who delivered the opening remarks and highlighted the importance of the program. PSU, as the Chair of the Network, has continuously driven initiatives toward achieving carbon neutrality.
One of the university’s flagship projects is the Carbon Storage Assessment of Sustainable Green Areas at PSU Hat Yai Campus, which serves as a pilot project under the Steering Committee for Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
The initiative integrates researchers from various faculties and campuses to utilize local resources for reducing and offsetting carbon emissions, with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality across all PSU campuses by 2038.

The workshop featured lectures and discussions led by researchers involved in the project, covering topics such as:

  • The importance of being a green university,

  • The current climate change crisis,

  • The roles of organizations and nations in addressing these challenges,

  • The assessment of an organization’s carbon footprint,

  • Standards and certification guidelines for achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions,

  • Case studies of successful initiatives such as clean energy projects and tree-planting programs.
