3.3.6 Smoke-free policy
Metric: Collaborations and health services
Have a ‘smoke-free’ policy.
Policy for the protection of non-smokers’ health and the establishment of designated "smoking areas."
Prince of Songkla University (PSU) implements a smoke-free policy as part of its commitment to promoting good health and well-being under Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3). The policy aims to protect non-smokers from second-hand smoke, promote a healthier campus environment, and cultivate health-conscious behavior among students, staff, and visitors.
The university designates specific smoking areas on its campuses to balance personal freedom and public health protection.
PSU enforces this policy through a disciplinary system. Students who violate the smoking policy receive a written warning for the first offense, while repeat offenders are subject to additional disciplinary actions in accordance with the PSU Student Discipline Regulations B.E. 2560. Violations can be reported to the Student Affairs Office or through designated reporting channels.
Overall, PSU’s smoke-free policy reflects the university’s broader vision of becoming a “Healthy and Sustainable University.” By integrating the policy into its campus culture and sustainability framework, PSU demonstrates leadership in health promotion and environmental responsibility, while encouraging the university community to adopt a smoke-free lifestyle.
