Executives and Staff of the Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University, Conduct a Mobile Medical Mission to Assist and Rehabilitate Flood Victims in Pattani Province

The Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University (PSU), led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Kittipong Riaproy, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rungsan Phuriyanontachai, Deputy Dean and Director of Songklanagarind Hospital, mobilized nearly 200 personnel — including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical students, and support staff — to Pattani Province to provide medical and rehabilitation assistance to flood-affected residents in Nong Chik District on December 10, 2024.

The mobile medical unit offered comprehensive One Stop Service care, including basic health check-ups, wound dressing, minor surgeries, and medication dispensing. The medical team consisted of surgeons, internists, pediatricians, and family and preventive medicine doctors, supported by nurses, pharmacists, and medical students who facilitated patient services.

Beyond medical care, another PSU team worked to restore Nong Chik Hospital, which suffered severe flood damage. Teams from engineering, medical equipment repair, building and maintenance, and housekeeping collaborated to clean, repair, and inspect infrastructure and devices. Damaged medical equipment was transported to Songklanagarind Hospital for repair before being returned.

The Faculty also donated essential hospital equipment, such as patient beds, examination tables, ultrasound beds, saline stands, medicine carts, and other necessary items to help Nong Chik Hospital resume normal operations quickly.

This mission demonstrated the unity, compassion, and volunteer spirit of PSU’s Faculty of Medicine in assisting flood-affected communities and restoring healthcare services in southern Thailand.

PSU Collaborates with the Royal Thai Navy’s Second Naval Area Command on a Health Promotion Project to Screen Naval Personnel for NCDs

The Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University (PSU) launched the “Naval Health Promotion Project” in collaboration with the Royal Thai Navy’s Second Naval Area Command. The program aims to screen and improve the health of naval personnel at risk of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) — a major cause of chronic illnesses. The opening ceremony, held on March 7, 2024, at the Second Naval Area Command Headquarters in Songkhla, was presided over by Vice Admiral Pichit Sirirungreung, Commander of the Second Naval Area.

The medical team from Songklanagarind Hospital conducted body composition analyses using bioelectrical impedance, along with providing health education and personalized lifestyle counseling for personnel identified as at-risk for NCDs. The project had run continuously for six months to ensure sustained health monitoring and behavior modification.

Vice Admiral Pichit emphasized that personnel health is essential to a strong and effective navy. With approximately 300 officers (15%) identified as at-risk for NCDs, the Royal Thai Navy has partnered with PSU to enhance preventive healthcare and encourage healthier lifestyles among its personnel.
