Workshop for Preparing a Joint Research Project on Conflict and Peacebuilding and Future Academic Collaboration Agreement
From September 9–12, 2024, Assistant Professor Dr. Srisompob Jitpiriyaprasit, Assistant Professor Dr. Kusuma Kuyae, and Dr. Rungrawee Chalermsri Pinyo Ratch, researchers from the Institute for Peace Studies, Prince of Songkla University, participated in a planning and preparatory meeting for a research project titled “Experiences of Violence, Expressions of Cooperation, and Emotions” at the University of Geneva, Switzerland.
This research project is part of an academic collaboration plan with Professor Simon Hug, Department of Political Science and International Relations, University of Geneva, and will be conducted during 2025–2026. The project is based on the hypothesis that direct experiences of violence strengthen in-group cooperation while weakening cooperation with out-groups. These relationships are mediated by emotions such as hope, empathy, and fear.
The research design involves survey research and experimental studies conducted in five areas: Colombia, Uganda, Turkey, Israel, and Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces. The project aims to enhance the research capacity—particularly in survey and experimental methods—of researchers from the Institute for Peace Studies, while also expanding international research collaboration.
