Prince of Songkla University has been driving sustainable development by promoting growth and management of the physical, environmental, and knowledge sectors according to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which consist of 17 goals. Utilizing the authority under Sections 34 and 39 of the Prince of Songkla University Act, B.E. 2559 (2016), the university has announced its policy on the environment and conservation of biological resources to promote, support, and advance sustainable development as follows.
1.Conduct operations with consideration for the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, including forests, mountains, caves, drylands, wetlands, freshwater, brackish water, seas, and wildlife.
2.Support projects aimed at identifying, monitoring, and protecting the biodiversity of plants and animals at risk of extinction, particularly those on the IUCN Red List and species protected under the Plant Act, B.E. 2518 (1975), and the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act, B.E. 2562 (2019).
3.Establish measures to control and manage invasive alien species and conflict species within the university.
4.Preserve natural green spaces, take care of existing trees, and promote additional tree planting within the university, aiming to increase carbon dioxide sequestration from trees by at least 10% of the base year greenhouse gas emissions by B.E. 2569 (2026).
5.Support collaboration with local communities, networks, agencies, and educational institutions, both domestically and internationally, for the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of biological resources through the participation of all sectors.
