Russian Ambassador to Thailand visits PSU to strengthen academic ties

On 18 February 2025, Prince of Songkla University was honored to welcome H.E. Mr. Evgeny Tomikhin, Ambassador of Russia to Thailand, along with delegates from the Embassy of the Russian Federation, and representatives from Pacific Fish Processing Company Limited (PFP).

The meeting was chaired by PSU President Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradub,  extending a warm welcome to the delegation. In turn, the Ambassador expressed his appreciation towards the continuous productive bilateral relations between Thailand and Russia, rooted in the historical visit of King Rama V. That sentiment was echoed by Mr. Egor Ivanov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Phuket, who also spoke positively about the thriving Russian Language Center at PSU’s Phuket Campus.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Janya Chanchaichujit, Assistant President for Promotion of Foreign Affairs, then introduced PSU’s student mobility programs, welcoming bilateral student exchange with Russian institutions. Another venue of collaboration was proposed by Dr. Panida Sukseemuang, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts, inquiring about the possibility of establishing a Russian Language Center on Hat Yai Campus to fulfill growing interest by PSU students. Mrs. Chutima Swangwaree, Associate Dean for International Relations, Communication, and Academic Services, elaborated further on the faculty’s behalf.

His Excellency responded positively about the proposed ideas, and kindly offered to facilitate such initiatives between PSU and Russian institutions.

This visit marks a milestone in strengthening ties between PSU and Russian institutions, paving the way for future cooperation in higher education initiatives beyond boundaries.
