Policy and University Development Plan for the Period 2007-2011
Based on the analysis in the external context of both global and national levels as well as the internal context which is composed of the report of assessment of the president performance, quality assurance and SWOT analysis; the direction of development of Prince of Songkla University which is consistent with the university vision of becoming a leading university in Asia with the main objectives of producing graduates, providing academic services to community and involving in preservation of national heritage in arts and culture, all through the research based platform, has been formalized and incorporated into the university policy and development plan for the period 2007-2011. The directions of development adopted may be categorized into 6 main directions as follows.
1. To be a research intensive university focusing on creating a system which will change the organization culture to one which relies more on research and graduate studies.
2. To be a center of excellence in certain areas or fields of studies which hopefully will raise the university status in the academic world, and to set example for the organization culture which adheres to the main mission of the university. The university is targeted to become an authority on the subjects of para rubber, oil palm, sea food, Songkla Lake and Islamic studies.
3. To produce academically competent graduates, who are good citizens and possess potential for self-learning, up to date knowledge, problem-solving skills and social-help consciousness.
4. To be a university which concerns with university-community engagement, nurture the community through teaching, research and academic services by using an approach which will increase the community potential for life-long attainment of knowledge.
5. To promote equals development opportunities, and close cooperation between campuses, creating a management system which will lead to a high performance organization of clearly identifiable organization structure, strategic plan, development plan, faculty and staff development plan, finance and budgetary plan, plan for delegation of authority, and performance assessment plan, and always puts significance shortage problems high on the university agenda.
6. To be an institution of learning and development of potential of people as well as an institution of good governance, by promoting an organization culture on the assessment and evaluation processes which is transparent, accountable, fair and impartial, based on the principles of shared vision and collegiate decision.
Prince of Songkla University has adopted the aforementioned view points as its policy and development plan for the period 2007-2011. They will be used as guidelines in administering the university to achieve a lasting growth, and as driving forces which will power Prince of Songkla university towards an Intellectual University of the future.
