From the results of a research project “Reaching for Integrated Research with the Communities” sponsored by the Research and Development for Health in Southern Thailand Institute and headed by Assoc. Prof. Somyot Thungwa; it has become evident that if most of community research works carried out by the University are to be successful and find real application, a one stop services organization that can cater for both the inlet and outlet streams of works for researchers, academicians and the communities be set up in the university. As the communities want researches that could find real application, and in order that the researchers should have opportunities to understand the need of the communities and response by adjusting their research directions accordingly, the PSU Research and Development Office has offered to act as a central unit in coordinating the requirement of the both parties. It proposes to seek collaboration between researchers and communities in setting up a “ Communities Research Network” to develop data base for required specific researches from the communities point of views, arrange for brainstorming sessions between researchers and communities, publicize research works and pushing for their application. Its principal goal is to produce a PSU Technical Report Series that will systematically assemble the body of knowledge so that the university researchers can understand the need of the communities and can develop researches that find real application as well as providing a channel for dialogues between researchers and communities. One another goal is to publish a PSU Review to promote application of research works in the communities.
