The setting up of John F. Kennedy Library came from the initiative of His Excellency Colonel Thanat Khoman, the Univerity first president and a committee member of the John F. Kennedy Foundation. After consultation with the rest of the committee, the foundation responded with a grant of 3,595,000 Baht for the construction of a two-storey building of the library, which was subsequently named the John F. Kennedy Library. The library, fully air-conditioned and with floor area of 1200 square meters, was completed in July 1972 and officially opened in 1973.
A new library building with floor area of 5000 square meters, 500 seating capacity and fully air-conditioned was further built connected to the first building in 1986 at the cost of 33,000,000 Baht. The building was designed as a three-storey building but due to budget restraint only the first two storey was built. In the fiscal years 1995 the library received a special budget of 17,000,000 Baht, spreading over three years, earmarked for the development which would make the library an automatic library according to the Development of Provincial University Libraries System (PULINET) project.
Subsequently in 2000, the third storey of the library building was completed to the tune of 19,650,000 Baht. The John F. Kennedy Library now has total floor area of 8,100 square meters with the seating capacity of 850, and fully air-coditioned.
