Songklanagarind Hospital Wins a Gold Award in Thailand Kaizen Award 2010
Assoc. Prof. Boonsom Siribumrungsukha, Prince of Songkla University President revealed that Songklanagarind Hospital under the administration of Faculty of Medicine has devoted itself to human and work development and successfully won one gold and two silver medals in Kaizen Suggestion System Category, Thailand Kaizen Award 2010, held by the Technology Promotion Association (Thailand-Japan) or TPA. It is greatly appreciated and admired that all hospital personnel have devoted themselves to improve the hospital work systems and won three of the five prizes in this category.
Assoc. Prof. Sumet Peerawut, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University revealed that the hospital has always given importance to development of quality service to serve the patients and has thus adopted Kaizen as one of the activities to help the administration in providing quality service and has eventually won prizes for its excellent practice and the 5S Award Thailand in 2007 and the National Innovation Award in 2009.
The work that won the gold medal this year was the “Intestine Pusher” by Mr. Samrit Ruengchan of the Department of Radiology to be used in the treatment of intussusceptions, reducing complications and hospital bed-days from 11 days to 3 days. The other two prizes were silver medals. One was from “Washable Diaper Pants”, by Mrs. Kritiya Nukliang of the Female Surgical Ward. The washable diaper pants can reduce bed sore incidents, prevent infection and reduce the use of 4-10 commercial diapers per person per day. Another silver medal was from the “Helper Model for Kids” by Mr. Kanchana Yodsri of the Pediatric Ward. This model helps increase the efficiency in urinary catheterization and blood drawing in children aged 3 months to 2 years. The model can help reduce the number of officials needed in urinary catheterization and blood drawing and can satisfy patients’ parents and relatives at a very high level.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine stated that the success is an important step that would lead Prince of Songkla University to be a world class university for research and academic excellence, and with continuous development. It is expected that the university can become one of the world’s top 100 universities soon as it is now ranked 101.
